Paintball 2008
The Youth visited Wolfe's Ridge Paintball in Christiansburg to have a great afternoon of bonding and teamwork.  We had a great day of cool weather to play capture the flag and the windmill games. I believe that the girls enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the guys.  I know that the girls shot more paint than the guys.   As you can see the youth had a great time and have been asking to go back.
Christmas Party 2008
This was a gathering of our youth group to celebrate the birth of Christ.  We played games, ate lots of desserts and talked about the story of the Birth of our Savior.  We even had a "White Elephant Gift trade" where the youth brought something from their home that they no longer wanted.  This created some laughs as people opened up exercise equipment, stuffed animals, a can of beans, a tea pot and more.
Box City

Box City was a great experience where the youth participated in a "Homeless Simulation" that we created right here at RHBC.  The youth group arrived at church at 6:00 pm where they each picked out a box that would become there home for the next 18 hours.  They were able to bring a pillow, a sleeping bag/blanket and one additional item, which could not be food or electronic.  Some kids brought games, books, bibles, footballs, Frisbees, etc.  We had a misty night of cool weather and the youth were not aloud to go inside and went without food for 18 hours.  We had a camp fire to stay warm, but life was pretty miserable for many of the youth when hunger and cold set in.  The next morning we panhandled for money as the church members came in for worship and the kids were asked to treat this as a serious setting.  We raised over $1600 for the RHBC Food Pantry, but more than that we touched many of our church members lives by revealing how uncomfortable they became around homeless people.  At the end of the 18 hours, I took them all out for lunch, to the Rescue Mission, in downtown Roanoke.  Here we waited in line with true homeless people and got a taste of what it was like to be humbled.  We ate a nice meal of turkey and potatoes, a hot meal for hungry children.  It was an eye opening experience and I truly believe it gave our group a true heart for serving and helping others.

Passport 3D 2008

Seventeen youth and five chaperones were able to have a great worship experience at Disney World with 2,400 youth from around the country.  We gathered for 4 days in Orlando, Florida to learn about God and to pray with youth from three denominations; Baptists, Episcopalians, and Presbyterians.  We had large worship services and small prayer groups with a live band and many skits to help us understand God's love for us.  We are all one for Christ. We also were able to spend a great deal of time playing in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Studios and Animal Kingdom.  The 14 hour bus trip on the way down and back gave our kids plenty of time to bond and we had a great trip and furthered our walk with God.
