The Mission Store provides an opportunity for anyone to purchase items needed for our own food pantry. The food pantry gives out up to 100 bags of food each week. By "purchasing" a food pantry bag in the mission store, the $10 goes towards the items that must be purchased at both the Second Harvest Food Bank and any items bought in bulk that the food bank does not have available.
New for 2009 is Moneyless Missions. These items can also be delivered to the mission store area where bins are marked for each item.

Moneyless Missions
Make sure to keep in mind those unused items you may have in your home that could be helpful to others!
Recently we learned of the need for used linens: sheets, curtains, tablecloths, towels, etc. to be taken to the Powell River Valley Association in far Southwest Virginia. Our own RVBA (Roanoke Valley Baptist Association) sends a truck to Powell River every view months with these items to help families. Look for the bin marked Powell River Linens! We have had great response to the used eyeglasses as well, remember these “missions” are ongoing!
Other items currently being collected: children’s books, aluminum tabs, used cell phones, used printer cartridges, gently worn men’s clothing, and small sample toiletries.

Grand Opening of the Missions Store, March 25, 2007
Sunday, March 25, 2007 marked the opening of the MISSIONS STORE. This is a new concept to help those who love to contribute to the monthly collections (paper towels, peanut butter, Mac-n-cheese, spaghetti noodles, etc) for local mission needs. Instead of asking folks to remember to purchase items in a local grocery store and bring them to church, we have the items on display that can be purchased right here at church! We offer items for $1 up to bulk pricing. This allows children and family members alike to participate in the purchasing of items for local mission needs. The mission store is open every Sunday after both services and Sunday School and is located at the end of the crossover. We were honored by Miss Alma Hunt who cut the ribbon for the grand opening, had a prayer of blessing AND made the first purchase! |
